Machinery Belts
V-belts, timing belts, harvester combine belts and lifting belts — the fully recovered six-line heading.
Six lines, fully recovered — the smallest heading in the catalogue and one of the most revealing about who the customers were. V-belts, timing belts in two entries, harvester combine belts in two entries, and a lifting belt.
V-belts
The V-belt is the default industrial drive: a trapezoidal-section belt that wedges into a matching pulley groove, transmitting torque by friction on its flanks rather than on its base. It is cheap, tolerant of misalignment, quiet, and — importantly for a maintenance store — it is the designed weak point of the drive. A belt that slips or breaks under an overload has usually saved a gearbox or a motor from the same event.
A running belt drive is also an exposed nip point, and the guarding requirements that go with it are set out in the OSHA mechanical power-transmission standard — a belt change is one of the most common reasons a guard comes off and does not go back on.
V-belts are specified by cross-section profile and by length, and both matter. A belt that is the right length in the wrong section will sit at the wrong depth in the groove and destroy itself and the pulley within days. Where several belts run in parallel on one drive they are replaced as a matched set, because a new belt beside a stretched one carries the entire load until it too has stretched.
Timing belts
Two timing belt entries were carried, one of them cross-tagged into Pulling Support. A timing belt is a toothed belt running on a toothed pulley, and unlike a V-belt it does not rely on friction — it cannot slip, which is exactly why it is used. Anywhere two shafts must maintain a fixed angular relationship, a timing belt is the light, quiet alternative to a chain or a gear train.
The consequence for maintenance is the opposite of the V-belt's. A timing belt has no overload relief: if the driven machine jams, something else in the train absorbs the event. Timing belts also fail differently — they shear teeth rather than slipping — so a belt that has been running against a worn pulley will strip suddenly and without the noise that gives warning on a friction drive.
Harvester combine belts
Two harvester combine belt lines sat in a catalogue that is otherwise about plant maintenance, and they say something specific about the customer base: it included agricultural machinery, which in most regions means seasonal, time-critical and remote from any dealer network.
Combine belts are a demanding application. They are long, they run over many pulleys including reversing idlers that flex the belt backwards, they operate in dust and crop debris, and a failure during a harvest window costs far more than the belt. That is why the item exists as distinct stock rather than being served by a general V-belt: the constructions are heavier and the lengths are outside the ordinary industrial range.
Lifting belts
The lifting belt, cross-tagged into Others, is a different product entirely despite sharing the heading. A webbing sling is rated equipment, not a consumable — it carries a working load limit, it must be inspected before use, and it is withdrawn permanently once it is cut, abraded, heat-damaged or chemically attacked. The failure mode is instantaneous and the load is usually over someone.

Why six lines is the right number
A belt range does not need to be broad. Almost every industrial drive is served by one of a handful of standard profiles, and the depth that matters is in lengths, not in types. A distributor with six belt headings and access to the full length range in each is more useful than one carrying dozens of specialities, because the customer's question is almost never "which type" — it is "do you have this exact length today, because the line is stopped".
Belt and pulley dimensional standards are published internationally by the International Organization for Standardization, and the corresponding Indian specifications by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
